35-year-old law graduate Zara Aleena was murdered by Jordan McSweeney in Ilford, east London, in June 2022. McSweeney, who had 28 previous convictions, was given a life sentence with a minimum of 38 years, later reduced to 33 years. Aleena's family, including her aunt Farah Naz, are "tortured with the thought her death was preventable" and criticize the justice system as "crumbling." An inquest is underway to investigate if any state body actions or omissions contributed to her death.
