US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm called for more nuclear reactors to be built in the US and worldwide, following Georgia Power Co.'s completion of the first two new US reactors in a generation at a cost of $35 billion. Granholm stated that the US needs 98 more reactors with the capacity of units 3 and 4 at Plant Vogtle to reduce carbon emissions and produce electricity for 500,000 homes and businesses each.
