US DOE plans to invest $900m in small modular reactor (SMR) deployment, supporting domestic nuclear industry, clean energy goals, and job creation.

The US Department of Energy (DOE) plans to invest $900m in funding for the deployment of small modular reactors (SMRs). The funding aims to strengthen the domestic nuclear industry, drive clean energy goals, and create skilled job opportunities. Up to $800m will be awarded to support one or two 'first-mover teams' to deploy a first SMR plant and facilitate a multi-reactor, Gen III+ SMR orderbook. A further $100m will address gaps in design, licensing, supplier development, and site preparation for additional SMR deployments.
