Former Washington state police officer Timothy Rankine, acquitted in the death of Black man Manuel Ellis, has filed multimillion-dollar claims against local and state officials, alleging defamation. Rankine, who is Asian American, accuses officials of falsely accusing him of criminal and racist misconduct, and seeks $47m in damages. Rankine was acquitted of manslaughter, but claims his reputation has been ruined.
