2019: NT police officer Zachary Rolfe, acquitted of shooting Kumanjayi Walker, defended his "murderer" social media comment as a joke about media and police labeling.

Former NT police officer Zachary Rolfe, who shot an indigenous teenager during an attempted arrest, told an inquest his "murderer" comment on a social media post was a joke about his treatment by the media. Rolfe shot Kumanjayi Walker three times at Yuendumu in Nov 2019 and was acquitted of murder in 2022. During the inquest, Rolfe said his comment was a joke about being called a "murderer" by the NT police force and media.
