British Columbia's chief veterinarian issues order making it illegal to transport boats without removing drain plug to curb whirling disease and invasive mussels spread.
British Columbia's chief veterinarian has issued an order making it illegal to transport boats or other watercraft without removing the drain plug to prevent the spread of whirling disease. The order, which takes effect on Friday, also aims to keep invasive mussels out of B.C. waterways. Boat operators are required to clean, drain, and dry their watercraft, remove mud, sand, and plants, and wait 24 hours before entering new waters. Inspectors will check compliance with the new orders.
