Canadian Coast Guard fined BC boat owner $13,500 for leaving sunken vessel in Matchlee Bay, posing marine hazard.

The Canadian Coast Guard fined a British Columbia boat owner $13,500 for not removing a partially sunken vessel from Matchlee Bay near Gold River, BC. The 40-foot wooden fishing vessel, Muriel D II, posed a hazard to the marine environment as it was moored to a salmon enhancement pen not designed to hold its weight. The Canadian Coast Guard removed the vessel and issued the fine as part of its actions under the Oceans Protection Plan to address problem vessels and ensure owner accountability.
