African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) stated it has discharged 439 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Somalia since 2017, according to UN Mine Action Service's Chief of Mine Action, Justin Smith. The cooperation between Somali Security Forces (SSF), ATMIS, and the UN has reportedly prevented 1,756 potential casualties. In 2023, ATMIS Search and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams found and cleared 74% of devices targeting ATMIS troops, preventing 150 potential casualties.
