19 ATMIS police officers completed a UN-backed, 6-day training program in Somalia's Hiran region on vehicle checkpoint screening. Organized by UN Mine Action Service, the training aimed to enhance regional security and counter improvised explosive device (IED) threats by al-Shabab. ATMIS is developing Somali Security Forces' capacity to detect and deter IED use by illegal armed groups, with UNMAS as a key partner in mitigating the impact of IEDs laid by al-Shabab militants, causing civilian casualties and disrupting movement.
