Ugandan Lieutenant General Sam Kavuma, new commander of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), urges continued collaboration among contributing countries to degrade al-Shabaab militants and achieve peace in Somalia. ATMIS, operating since April 1, 2022, replaced the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) and includes troops from Uganda, Burundi, Djibouti, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
