China's state-owned railway operator, China Railway, predicts 18.65 million railway trips on May 5, the last day of the five-day May Day holiday. The eight-day travel rush, April 29-May 6, is expected to total 144 million passenger trips, with an average of 12,000 daily passenger trains, 1,800 more than usual. On May 5, 1,710 additional passenger trains will operate to ensure smooth operations.
