India's crude oil imports decreased by 16% in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, reaching 232.5 million tonnes, while its reliance on overseas suppliers rose to a new high of 87.7%. Despite lower import bills, India's net oil and gas import bill decreased from USD 144.2 billion to USD 121.6 billion. The country's fuel consumption increased by 4.6% to a record 233.3 million tonnes.
