India's edible oil imports dropped 3.09% in 2023-24, yet it remains the world's top importer.

India's edible oil imports fell by 3.09% to 159.6 lakh tonnes in the 2023-24 oil year due to higher domestic oilseed production and reduced demand from price hikes. The Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA) expects a further drop in imports next year due to anticipated bumper crops. Despite the decrease, India remains the world's largest importer of edible oils, with continued reliance on imports to meet growing demand.
