2025 TB elimination goal threatened by rising pre-XDR-TB and MDR-TB in India, finds HaystackAnalytics study.
New study by HaystackAnalytics reveals increasing resistance to crucial antibiotics among TB patients in India. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) of 600 clinical samples from patients with TB showed pre-extensively drug-resistant TB (pre-XDR-TB) in 50.83% of cases and multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) in 15.5%. As India aims to eliminate TB by 2025, WGS may help detect drug-resistant TB early, improving treatment outcomes.
