Japan gifts 250 cherry trees to US for Tidal Basin seawall repairs, marking 250th US anniversary.

Japan is giving the US 250 new cherry trees to help replace those being removed for seawall repairs at the Tidal Basin in Washington. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced the gift, which also marks the 250th anniversary of the US in 2026. The original trees, planted in 1912, symbolised friendship between the two countries.
