India's Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and Coast Guard seized 4.9 kg of foreign-origin gold worth Rs 3.4 crore ($450,000) in a mid-sea operation near Ramanathapuram district, Tamil Nadu. The DRI and ICG conducted a joint operation after receiving intelligence that a gang was smuggling gold into India from Sri Lanka using fishing boats. Three men were arrested in connection with the seizure.
