India's Bombay High Court orders premature release of ex-mafia don-turned-politician Arun Gawli, serving life sentence, due to 2006 policy entitlement.

India's Bombay High Court has ordered the premature release of ex-mafia don-turned-politician Arun Gawli, who has been serving a life sentence in Nagpur Central Jail. The court ruled that Gawli should be entitled to the benefits of a 2006 policy, despite a 2015 notification that stated a convict under the MCOCA Act would be entitled to the policy decision. The state has been directed to make a decision on Gawli's release within four weeks.
