Mother, Mary Coughlan, criticised the mental health system after her son, Gearoid Coughlan (32), who has schizophrenia, attempted to murder her. She said the system failed to communicate the risks posed by her son's condition and allowed him to live in the community without proper care, particularly medication adherence. Mary Coughlan suffered lifelong injuries and trauma from the assault.
