A soldier at Fort Jackson in South Carolina was found dead in on-base housing on March 21, marking the fifth enlistee fatality at the base within a year. The 3,500 active duty soldiers at the base have experienced more than a dozen military deaths on South Carolina bases since 2020. The Army has not provided significant insight into the recent spate of on-base deaths, but they are offering care to the deceased's family and colleagues.
