2 South Carolina Army National Guard soldiers, Kristal Lopez (paralegal specialist) and Carol Santiago (human resources specialist), both aged 19 and from Lancaster, died in a head-on collision on Highway 9 in Union on March 16. Both women were members of the 228th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade. The incident remains under investigation, and the South Carolina National Guard is mourning their loss.
