2 South African soldiers killed, 20 injured in mortar attack on base in DRC on June 25, 2024.
South Africa's military confirms that a mortar attack on one of its bases in DRC killed two soldiers and injured 20 others. The attack took place on June 25, 2024, in Sake, a town in eastern DRC. South African troops are deployed in Congo as part of a Southern African Development Community force assisting the government in combating rebel groups. Four critically injured soldiers have been hospitalized, while the remaining injured are expected to be discharged soon. This brings the total number of deaths within the SA mission to about 12 since their deployment to the DRC.
