Disability activist Emma Ward from Galway credits the donation of a baby's umbilical cord for saving her life. She shared her experience with Mucopolysaccharidosis type 1 (Hurler syndrome), affecting 1 in every 100,000 babies, on Rare Disease Day 2024. Hurler syndrome, a lysosomal storage disorder, causes abnormal sugar accumulation in cells. Emma's story aims to raise awareness for the condition.
