Dani Alves, former Barcelona and Brazil football player, has been sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for involvement in a sexual assault case in a Barcelona nightclub on New Year's Eve 2022.

Former Barcelona and Brazil football player Dani Alves has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison by Catalonia's top court for his involvement in a sexual assault case. The incident occurred at a Barcelona nightclub on New Year's Eve 2022, where a woman accused Alves of raping her in a restroom. Alves has been ordered to compensate the victim with 150,000 euros (£128,000) and has remained in custody since his arrest in January 2023, with requests for bail denied due to concerns he might flee. Alves denied any wrongdoing, but eventually admitted to having consensual sexual relations with the woman.
