40-year-old Brazilian soccer star Dani Alves released from Spanish prison on €1M bail, appealing rape conviction from 2022.

Former Brazilian soccer star Dani Alves has been released from a Spanish prison after posting a 1 million euro ($1.09 million) bail, following his conviction for rape in a nightclub restroom in 2022. Alves, who denies wrongdoing, has served about a quarter of his four-and-a-half-year prison sentence and is appealing his rape conviction. The 40-year-old has handed over both his Brazilian and Spanish passports and cannot leave Spain. He must appear before the court every Friday or when summoned, and a restraining order bans him from coming within 1,000 meters of the victim.
