Parents of two year-old Diana Jane Hanbury charged with murder.

The parents of a two-year-old girl named Diana Jane Hanbury, from North Mackay, have been charged with murder after allegedly denying her medical treatment before she died from an illness. A 14-month investigation led to the charging of Diana's mother, 38, and father, 37, with one count each of murder and responsibility to have a birth registered. Detective Superintendent Darrin Shadlow attributed the charges to "reckless indifference." The couple had other children, who were removed from their care shortly after Diana's death. The parents are scheduled to appear in Mackay Magistrates Court on Thursday. CCTV footage from a local chemist and supermarket showed the toddler being carried in a harness on a woman's back in the hours before her death. The police released the footage to gain information from the public.
