Man charged over Australian of the Year awards bets.

A 47-year-old man from Collaroy, Sydney, has been charged with using insider information from a Commonwealth employee to place bets on the Australian of the Year awards between 2017 and 2021. Facing six counts of using inside information for a betting purpose, he allegedly received $7542 from $1767 worth of bets. The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission had reported betting irregularities in the 2021 awards to the Australian Federal Police, which initiated Operation Maridun.
