Construction company owner George Alex and associates found guilty of handling $1m in crime proceeds; jury undecided on $13m tax fraud charge.
George Alex, a construction company owner in Sydney, and four associates were found guilty of dealing with over $1 million in proceeds of crime. However, a jury is still deliberating on whether they conspired to defraud the Australian Taxation Office of $13 million by hiding pay-as-you-go charges through "shield" companies. The jury has been considering the tax fraud charge for 16 days following a lengthy trial.
