Lafayette firefighters battled fires in mobile homes and vacant houses, with one blaze caused by a cigarette.

Lafayette firefighters responded to multiple fire incidents this weekend. In the 100 block of Hebert Road, a mobile home fire left the dwelling severely damaged, but the occupant was safely at a neighbor's home. On Saint Catherine Street, a patio fire was quickly extinguished, starting from a bucket of combustibles ignited by a cigarette. Lastly, a vacant house fire in the 500 block of Lafayette Street caused heavy damage; its origin is under investigation, with reports of recent homeless occupants.
