Diane Carlson Evans receives Presidential Citizens Medal for founding the Vietnam Women's Memorial.

Diane Carlson Evans, a former Vietnam War army nurse, has been awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal for her exceptional service to the country. Evans, who served as a nurse during the war, later founded the Vietnam Women's Memorial Foundation, which led to the creation of a monument on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., honoring around 265,000 women who served in the war. The medal is the second-highest civilian honor in the U.S.
