Truck attack kills at least 10 in New Orleans on Bourbon Street during bollard replacement.

New Orleans was replacing security barriers, called bollards, along Bourbon Street when a truck attack killed at least 10 people on New Year's Day. The bollards, part of a $40 million safety plan initiated in 2017, were meant to restrict vehicle access. The replacement project, which began on November 18, involved removing old bollards and installing temporary asphalt patches. It remains unclear if the attack occurred at an intersection under construction, but the absence of the barriers possibly created a vulnerability. The project is scheduled to be completed by February 2025, ahead of the Super Bowl.
