A 52-year-old mother, Anna-Marie Stevens, who had recently won £13,000 in a lottery, died in a car crash in Westcliff-on-Sea when a speeding vehicle mounted the pavement, hitting her and her 23-year-old daughter. The driver was arrested for causing death by dangerous driving, possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Stevens had used her winnings to care for her ill dog, which died shortly after her.
