Nearly 970,000 Afghan refugees have returned home from neighboring countries in the past eight months.

In the past eight months, nearly 970,000 Afghan refugees have returned home from Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey, with 88,000 from Pakistan and around 5,000 from Turkey, according to Afghan officials. The Afghan caretaker government encourages refugees to return to help rebuild the war-torn country. About 7 million Afghan refugees currently live abroad, primarily in Pakistan and Iran.
