BC Parks Foundation buys land to protect old-growth forest near John Dean Provincial Park.

The BC Parks Foundation has acquired six hectares of land next to John Dean Provincial Park in Saanich, preserving the last remaining old-growth Douglas fir and Garry oak ecosystems. The $1.6 million purchase, funded with help from Tsawout First Nation and the Friends of John Dean Park Society, prevents development of this vital habitat. The land will remain closed to the public as plans for management and connecting it to the park are developed. It also serves as an educational site for learning about the W̱SÁNEĆ Peoples' history and traditions.
