El Capitan, an AMD-powered supercomputer at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, has been ranked the world's fastest, surpassing Frontier. With a performance of 1.742 exaflops, it can perform over a quintillion calculations per second, making it 1.742 quintillion operations per second. The system uses 11,136 nodes with AMD MI300A APUs and will be used to modernize the US nuclear arsenal, simulate aging effects, and develop new missile designs.
