A report by Action Foundation reveals that 58% of North East refugees and asylum seekers felt personally affected by UK riots following far-right protests. Asylum seeker Malali described stockpiling food and avoiding wearing her hijab due to fear. Many refugees altered their routines and avoided certain areas. Despite the fear, there was a sense of solidarity, with people demonstrating against racism. Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner Susan Dungworth launched funding to tackle hate crime and improve community cohesion.
