Former NM county commissioner Couy Griffin's Capitol conviction upheld by federal appeals court.

A federal appeals court upheld the conviction of former New Mexico county commissioner Couy Griffin for unlawfully entering the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. In a 2-1 ruling, the court dismissed Griffin's claims of ignorance regarding the restricted status of the area. He was sentenced to 14 days for the misdemeanor charge and banned from public office for his role in the insurrection. Griffin plans to appeal the decision.
