US Supreme Court declines to hear former NM county commissioner Couy Griffin's appeal.

The US Supreme Court has declined to hear an appeal from former New Mexico county commissioner Couy Griffin, who was removed from office due to his involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection. Griffin, a Republican, is the first elected official to be disqualified from office under a constitutional provision regarding insurrection for taking part in the attack. The Supreme Court's decision not to hear Griffin's case comes after the same court reversed a decision by Colorado's top court excluding former President Donald Trump from the state's ballot under Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution's 14th Amendment, which disqualifies those who took an oath to "support" the Constitution and then "engaged in insurrection".
