19th-century Franklin Arctic expedition captain's cannibalized remains found among crew, confirming Inuit accounts.

Archaeologists have confirmed the cannibalized remains of Captain James Fitzjames from the 19th-century Franklin Arctic expedition, which aimed to explore the Northwest Passage. His remains were found among 451 bones of at least 13 crew members near King William Island in Canada. Local Inuit accounts suggest cannibalism occurred during their desperate struggle for survival after the crew abandoned their ice-trapped ships in 1848, providing closure for Fitzjames' family.
