The Grand Rapids Fire Department obtains a license to expand medical services during emergencies.

The Grand Rapids Fire Department (GRFD) has obtained a license as a Non-Transport Prehospital Basic Life Support Agency. This new designation allows emergency medical technicians to administer specific medications and perform intubations at emergency scenes, enhancing their ability to respond to medical emergencies. GRFD responds to about 25,000 calls annually, with 68% being medical-related, and aims to improve life-saving services with this upgrade.
