Grand Rapids is building a new fire station on Kalamazoo and Kendall, SE, despite disagreement among neighbors, historians and preservationists over the removal of an 1875 historic home. The home, which needed major repairs and upgrades, was located in the historically-underfunded Third Ward with the largest Black population in the city. This area has only 11 Fire Stations compared to the rest of the city.
