The Carbon Mapper Coalition's Tanager-1 satellite, launched on August 16, has successfully detected methane and carbon dioxide plumes in the U.S. and abroad, including locations in Texas and Pakistan. Equipped with a NASA-designed imaging spectrometer, the satellite aims to monitor and map greenhouse gas emissions to aid climate change efforts. It is set to scan 116,000 square miles daily, with data made publicly available through the Carbon Mapper portal.
