NASA launched Tanager-1, a satellite by Carbon Mapper Coalition, to globally monitor methane and carbon dioxide emissions.

NASA has launched Tanager-1, the first satellite of the Carbon Mapper Coalition, equipped with a state-of-the-art greenhouse-gas-tracking instrument from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The satellite aims to measure methane and carbon dioxide emissions globally, down to the level of individual facilities and equipment, to help reduce emissions contributing to global warming. Tanager-1 is part of a philanthropically funded public-private coalition led by nonprofit Carbon Mapper and is expected to launch a second Tanager satellite with a JPL-built imaging spectrometer at a later date.
