Five power companies in Minnesota, including Great River Energy and Xcel Energy, are set to construct the Big Stone South-Alexandria-Big Oaks high-voltage transmission line. Approved by the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission, the project aims to alleviate grid congestion and enhance efficiency while providing reliable electric service. Construction will begin in 2025, connecting substations from South Dakota to Becker, supporting Xcel's goal for 100% carbon-free electricity by 2040.
