Conservation groups sue over high-voltage transmission line planned to cross Mississippi River wildlife refuge.
Conservation groups filed a federal lawsuit against plans to build a high-voltage transmission line, Cardinal-Hickory Creek, across a Mississippi River wildlife refuge. The 102-mile, $500m line, by American Transmission Company, ITC Midwest and Dairyland Power Cooperative Inc, aims to link Iowa's Dubuque County and Wisconsin's Dane County. Critics claim it will compromise the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge, home to migratory birds and fish breeding grounds.
