Scotland's Cairngorms National Park Authority initiates a 5-year emergency plan to protect endangered capercaillies, with a focus on habitat improvements and increasing their population by 2045.

Scotland's Cairngorms National Park Authority has initiated a five-year emergency plan to protect the capercaillie, a large woodland grouse on the brink of extinction, with only 532 remaining in the UK. The plan, developed with the Scottish Government, addresses threats such as human disturbance, predation, and habitat loss, aiming to improve survival and breeding success. It includes creating 35,000 hectares of new woodland by 2045 to support the species' recovery.
