On September 28, 2024, Babaji Daule, a 35-year-old lion handler at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Zoo in Abeokuta, Nigeria, was killed by a lion. The attack occurred when he failed to secure the enclosure before feeding the animal, allowing it to escape and inflict fatal neck injuries. The lion was subsequently shot to free its grip on Daule, whose body was taken to Ijaye General Hospital's mortuary. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
