University of Limerick criticized for due diligence failures in property purchases, overpaying by one-third market value.

The University of Limerick (UL) has been criticized for significant failures in due diligence during its property purchases, as revealed by a Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) report. UL paid approximately one-third above market value for a multimillion-euro property and did not obtain a formal valuation. The university proposed a €3 million write-down for its financial statements and incurred over €1 million in unanticipated stamp duty costs. Acting President Shane Kilcommins acknowledged these issues and committed to implementing the report's recommendations.
