Mayors propose Midlands-Northwest Rail Link as a 60-75% cost-effective alternative to HS2.

Mayors of Greater Manchester and the West Midlands have proposed a new 50-mile railway, the Midlands-Northwest Rail Link (MNWRL), as a cost-effective alternative to the scrapped HS2 project. Estimated to deliver 85% of HS2's benefits at 60-75% of the cost, the line aims to boost regional economies by up to £70 billion annually. The plan includes a feasibility study to attract private investment and enhance connectivity between the regions.
