200-year-old railway: New Liverpool-Manchester Railway Board formed for £17bn rail line, to boost economy and opportunities.

200 years after the first railway, a new Liverpool-Manchester Railway Board has been formed with plans for a £17bn rail line between the two cities. Mayors of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, and Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram, aim to boost the economy and increase opportunities with the new line, linking Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Piccadilly, via Warrington Bank Quay and Manchester Airport. The board consists of the mayors, council leaders, and a Manchester Airport Group managing director.
