UK's HS2 rail project faces major cost overrun, needing a "fundamental reset," CEO says.

The UK's HS2 high-speed rail project, aiming to connect London to the West Midlands, faces a "very serious situation," according to CEO Mark Wild. A "fundamental reset" is needed to reduce costs, which are estimated between £67-£83 billion, though these figures are deemed unreliable by the Department for Transport. Currently, 38 of 55 miles of tunnels have been dug, and 58% of engineering work is complete, with 31,000 people employed across 350 sites.
